Rumors have been circulating that after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was criticized for being “too dark” Warner Bros wanted to re-shoot scenes for Suicide Squad to inject a lighter tone and more humor. There were also speculation that the first “Bohemian Rhapsody” trailer contained all the funny bits and did not represent the actual tone of the movie.
The latest Suicide Squad “Blitz” trailer has dropped which should hopefully put these rumors to rest. While Suicide Squad has a darker tone than a typical Marvel movie, it’s pretty evident that director David Ayer has a clear vision for a fun, crazy action movie that isn’t going to take itself too seriously. The Joker and Harley Quinn are inherently perversely amusing characters and this trailer captures that well. The chemistry between the squad members is also playful and an unpredictability that anything could happen at any time.
Batfleck and his bat mobile makes brief appearances in the trailer. What the brief glimpses does not tell us is if Batman will cross paths with The Joker (Jared Leto). In any case, Batfleck fans will have something to hold them over until Justice League Part One which is scheduled for release on November 17, 2017.
Directed by David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch), Suicide Squad is about a team of DC comic book anti-heroes who are in a secret prison work-release program.
The cast includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as the Joker, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Karen Fukuhara as Katana and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5th, 2016.
